The Ohio State football team lost another player to the transfer portal on Sunday evening.

Former Ohio State offensive tackle Max Wray announced he is transferring to Colorado. He joins his brother, Jake, who retired from football in March due to medical problems but is still a part of the Buffaloes’ program.

Although Colorado achieved their goal of developing depth on the offensive line this spring, the right tackle spot is still open. Wray, who played on the right side for the Buckeyes, will have a very good opportunity to become the starter.

Wray redshirted his freshman year after coming to the Buckeyes as the 88th ranked player in the country in the 2018 recruiting class. He appeared in three games on special teams in 2019. Last season he was the top backup to Nicholas Petit-Frere at right tackle.

He started the Michigan State game when Petit-Frere was out due to COVID. Wray played well enough to be named as a Champion by the coaching staff. However, he played just one snap on offense the remainder of the season.

The Franklin, Tennessee native joins the Buffaloes as a graduate student after earning his degree from Ohio State this spring. He will have three years of eligibility remaining. He becomes the second Buckeye lineman in recent years to transfer to a Big XII school. Kevin Feder left the Ohio State football program for Kansas in 2018 and became an immediate starter for the Jayhawks.

When I first wrote of Wray entering the transfer portal back in early April, I mentioned Colorado as one of his possible landing spots. This doesn’t make me some sort of recruiting expert or college football insider. It wasn’t hard to put two and two together, and figure out he may want to join his brother.
