Ohio State basketball: Efton Reid finally commits to a school
By Ryan Stano
After a saga that lasted several weeks and two non-committal dates, the Ohio State basketball target has finally announced where he will be playing his college ball.
The Ohio State basketball program had been hopeful that five-star center Efton Reid would choose them. He had previously announced two prior dates in which he was going to make his school choice but failed to do so either time. Now, he has finally committed somewhere.
Reid will be playing his college ball at LSU. LSU was a school that wasn’t even considered a top-five finalist. He will be playing for coach Will Wade and the Tigers once the basketball season rolls around in 2021. It’s certainly an interesting choice.
This is the same Will Wade that was caught on tape making a “strong-ass offer” to former LSU guard Javonte Smart. I’m not saying that something like that happened in this case, but it is a very odd turn of events to suddenly have Reid commit to a school that was so far off the radar.
It will be interesting to see how Reid fits into Baton Rouge and what LSU has right now. As far as Ohio State is concerned, adding Reid was always a long shot once they added Joey Brunk in the transfer portal. They fixed their center problem.
Reid certainly would have been a great addition to the Buckeyes’ roster even if they had Brunk. Brunk isn’t good enough to start. But the reason Chris Holtmann added Brunk was because they weren’t confident that they were going to land Reid.
Whatever the case, at least this odd saga is finally over and Buckeye fans can move on. Now we can all just focus on the season ahead and not worry about this anymore.
