The Ohio State football program looks to have a loaded Draft class not just next year, but in 2023 as well.

Yesterday, I told you about Ohio State players listed as first-round picks in 2022 mock drafts. If you think it’s a little early for predictions for next year, wait until you get a load of this.

Pro Football Network has released its mock draft for 2023. You read that correctly. Their mock draft for two years from now.

A couple of Buckeyes are not just listed, they’re listed in the top five picks. They have quarterback C.J. Stroud going fourth and offensive lineman Paris Johnson, Jr. one pick later. Johnson is the first taken at his position, while they predict Stroud as the third quarterback off the board behind D.J. Uiagalelei of Clemson and Alabama’s Bryce Young.

I can’t help but think the fascination with Uiagalelei is a carryover from Trevor Lawrence. There seem to be questions about Young’s decision-making already after appearing in nine games as a backup to Mac Jones last year. Here is my way too early prediction: Stroud will become the best of the three.

PFN likes Stroud’s accuracy and athleticism and says he should take over college football with all of the weapons he has to work with. They like Johnson’s versatility (he’ll play guard this year, before moving to tackle) and say he’s an elite athlete.

If more Buckeyes join these two in the 2023 first round, who might they be? Receiver Julian Fleming is one name who comes to mind. Bullet Craig Young has the type of athleticism NFL teams love. I think the switch back to his natural position will benefit center Harry Miller. The question here is will he return for another season after 2021.

Would you like a dark horse for being a first-round pick in 2023? Cornerback Ryan Watts. His 6’3″ height is going to get a lot of attention from NFL teams. By all accounts, he had a very good spring. His interception in the Spring Game showed some of his promise. He covered Garrett Wilson well, located the ball in the air, and adjusted to the throw. He is someone I can see shooting up draft boards.

Next. 3 Buckeyes who are candidates to transfer. dark

A lot can change in two years, but I don’t doubt Stroud and Johnson will be high first round picks. I also don’t doubt at least one other Buckeye will join them in the first round. Will it be one of the guys I mentioned or will another emerge? Time will tell.
