Ohio State football: Buckeyes could be facing top NFL pick
By Ryan Stano
When the Ohio State football team takes on Oregon in the second week of the season, they could end up facing off against the number one pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Ohio State football team takes on Oregon in their home opener on September 11th. It will be the first game in two years in which fans will actually be in the Horseshoe to watch the Buckeyes play a real game. It will be a massive day for both programs.
In that game, the number one overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft could be on the field. No, it’s not Chris Olave. It’s not Garrett Wilson or Zach Harrison. It’s not Haskell Garrett either. In fact, he doesn’t even play for the Buckeyes. He plays for Oregon.
That player is Kayvon Thibodeaux. He is a defensive end who plays for Oregon who is junior and could end up being that number one overall pick depending on what team lands that pick. He is one of the pass rushers in the country and might be the best one.
Thibodeaux will be going after a brand new Ohio State quarterback. He has been mocked by several early 2022 Mocks to be the top pick in next year’s Draft. If he has a big game against the Buckeyes in that game, his stock could shoot up immensely.
Conversely, if Nicholas Petit-Frere and Thayer Munford could increase their draft stocks by having a great game against Thibodeaux. If they can keep him off whoever the quarterback will be, they have a chance to possibly move their stocks up to be first-round picks.
It will be must-watch football for not just Buckeye and Ducks fans, but college football fans everywhere. There will be a ton of scouts to watch this game as well. It will be one of the best matchups all season in terms of a non-conference game.
It’s a game I can’t wait to attend.
