The Ohio State football team landed another commitment from a three-star defensive back. Now the Buckeyes are adding to their defensive backfield.

By far the weakest part of the Ohio State football team in 2020 was their secondary. It was part of the reason why they got destroyed by Alabama in the National Championship Game. Since then, Ryan Day and his staff have been hard at work on the recruiting trail to fix that.

The Buckeyes have landed three-star defensive back Ryan Turner. Turner is a 6’0 180 pound cornerback from Hollywood, Florida. He had almost 30 offers from all the big-time schools. Clemson, Penn State, Florida, and Oregon were just some of the schools that offered him.

He chose to come to Columbus over all of those programs. While he is a three-star kid right now, he will move up to a four-star kid very soon. He would come in next year as part of the 2022 class. He is the second defensive back to commit to the Buckeyes in the past few days.

Turner is still very raw as a prospect. He does a very good job of reading the quarterback’s eyes to make a break on the ball. He has very good ball skills as well once the ball is thrown towards him. Turner also can make some nice hits while making tackles.

Turner does keep his eyes in the backfield a bit too much though. Because of that, he is susceptible to play-fakes and can get beat on play-action passes. He needs to get a little more disciplined with his eyes before he can improve to be truly elite.

Kerry Coombs has a track record of coaching up defensive backs to an elite level once they make it to Ohio State. Day is hoping he can do that once again with Turner. He is very fast and has all of the physical skills, he just needs some refinement.
