Ohio State football: Josh Myers drafted in 2nd round by Packers
By Ryan Stano
The Green Bay Packers replace one Ohio State football player with another. After losing Corey Linsley, they got another Buckeye center in Josh Myers.
After waiting the whole second round, two Ohio State football players were taken at the end of the round. Pete Werner went to the Saints, and now Josh Myers has been taken by the Green Bay Packers. Myers will replace former Buckeye center Corey Linsley in Green Bay.
Linsley left to sign a very lucrative deal with the Chargers, so the Packers decided to replace him with the most recent Ohio State center in Josh Myers. This pick is a little bit of a surprise since most places didn’t have Myers getting drafted until the third or fourth round.
Myers is one of the most versatile offensive linemen in the 2021 NFL Draft though. Myers can play guard or center and showed that at his time in Columbus. He will likely play center in Green Bay though and is good enough to start day one for them.
Myers is strong at the point of attack and can drive defensive tackles off the ball. His pass protection struggled just a little bit after his move to center in 2020, but that can be fixed. He just needs more reps at that position and an offseason to work on it.
The Packers get someone who will work his butt off to make sure he is the best player that he can possibly be. I think Green Bay is going to like this Ohio State center as much as they liked the last one. Myers can be the starter here for the next ten years.
Buckeyes are now flying off the board, with more to come in the third round for sure.
