Bears trade up to take Justin Fields 11th overall in 2021 NFL Draft
By Ryan Stano
Justin Fields is a Chicago Bear after Chicago traded up to 11th to take the former Ohio State football player.
Justin Fields finally got a team that wanted him. The Chicago Bears traded up from 20th to 11th to take Fields. They gave up a lot to get him too, giving up their first-rounder this year and next year, as well as a fifth-round pick this year and a fourth-rounder next season.
This certainly comes as a surprise after the Bears signed Andy Dalton in the offseason. They also still have Mitch Trubisky on their roster too. It has suddenly become a very crowded quarterback room in Chicago. The Bears could start Fields day one.
It was uncertain where Fields was going to go after the 49ers took Trey Lance instead. Then Atlanta went tight end and Carolina went defensive back. It seemed like he was going to fall right into the laps of the New England Patriots sitting at 15.
That ended up not being the case. Chicago clearly wanted Fields bad. As far as fit goes, this isn’t a bad place for Fields. He has a decent offensive lineman and a good receiver in Allen Robinson. He also has a chance to compete for the starting job immediately as both Dalton and Trubisky are average at best.
With a defense as good as Chicago has right now, they are a good quarterback away from being very interesting. Justin Fields gives them that quarterback. He can be the best quarterback in the NFC North if the Packers end up having to trade Aaron Rodgers.
Fields definitely took note of all of the teams that passed on him. Make no mistake, he is not going to let those teams forget that they passed on him. He is going to make them pay every time that the Bears play them.
Justin Fields finally has his team. Now it’s time for him to show everyone why that team put its faith in him,
