The Ohio State basketball team was one of the finalists for the five-star center. After postponing his commitment, what are the Buckeyes’ chances of landing him now?

Efton Reid had the Ohio State basketball program listed as one of his final schools before his commitment date of April 15th. It was Ohio State, Florida State, NC State, and Virginia that were all of the schools fighting for his services. Then April 15th rolled around.

On that date, Reid decided to postpone his commitment. He gave no indication of when he could possibly be deciding. This commitment has been one of the most buttoned-up commitments I’ve seen. Leading up to that date, he gave no hints on where he might go.

Since then, Ohio State learned that Kyle Young is coming back next season. They also went ahead and grabbed Joey Brunk from the transfer portal to help fill the void at center. With those two added to the roster, what does that do for their chances to land Reid?

In my eyes, it means that they won’t be getting him. They realized that after that commitment date came and went and they weren’t the choice, they went elsewhere to get roster help. That’s why they recruited Brunk from the transfer portal.

That doesn’t mean I can’t be wrong. Reid has not even given the slightest hint to anyone on where he might go or when he might make that announcement. For all we know, Ohio State could still be in the running. He might just think he’s good enough to surpass Brunk in the rotation, which of course he is.

My guess is that Reid will be making a decision sometime in the next couple of weeks. Any later than that, and he risks not being able to be enrolled somewhere before the Fall semester starts. It would be a great get if the Buckeyes were able to somehow get him though.

I’m sure Chris Holtmann would love a surprise. I’m sure it would be a good problem to have to manage the roster if Reid decided to com to Columbus.
