Ohio State football: Baron Browning has big opportunity in the NFL
By Ryan Stano
Whichever team drafts the former Ohio State football player might be able to fully unlock the potential of the former big-time recruit.
Baron Browning came into the Ohio State football program with a lot of expectations. He was a five-star recruit and was touted as the 11th best player in the country and the best linebacker in the country. He didn’t quite live up to those expectations though.
In fact, until the 2019 season, he didn’t really play a whole lot. In 2019 he was able to finally get on the field and show flashes of his immense potential. Over the last couple of seasons, Browning was able to accumulate 72 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks.
Browning also showed his ability to cover as a linebacker. He was able to get out and cover tight ends and running backs and not get embarrassed. You could even line him up against some slot guys and get by with that. Because of that, Browning is intriguing to a lot of NFL teams.
His speed on the edge makes him intriguing as a pass rusher in a 3-4 system. His ability to get downhill and attack the middle makes him a good option as an outside linebacker in a 4-3 system, as well as his ability to get out and cover if needed.
Browning could hear his name called as high as the second round in next week’s Draft. Whichever team does decide to take him will try to unlock the full potential that Ohio State wasn’t quite able to get out of him. He still has a lot of room for improvement and can still get a lot better.
If Browning gets drafted by the right franchise, he could get himself to play like a Pro Bowl-caliber player. There are teams out there that hope and believe that they can unlock Browning and make him a contributor for several years to come.
