Ohio State football: 3 teams that should trade up for Justin Fields
By Ryan Stano
The Patriots currently own the 15th pick in the Draft. They have Cam Newton as their starter right now. Newton was not very good last year in his first year in New England, yet the Patriots didn’t really have any other options but to bring him and wait for the Draft.
There are scenarios where the Patriots are able to snag Fields at 15. With the recent discovery of his epilepsy, he could fall that far and New England wouldn’t need to trade up at all. But if they truly want to make sure that they get him, they should move up and get him.
New England would be a great place for him. The Patriots have a track record of keeping a strong culture together. No matter what I or anyone thinks of Josh McDaniels after leaving the Colts at the altar, he is an excellent offensive coordinator.
Fields wouldn’t have great weapons on the outside, but he can manage without that. He would have two great tight ends to throw to after they signed Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith in free agency. N’Keal Harry has potential on the outside as a receiver as well.
Bill Belichick has also shown the ability to change the offense to better suit his quarterback as he did a year ago for Newton. He could do the same thing for Fields if they grabbed him. Drafting Fields would give them the franchise quarterback they need in the post-Tom Brady era.
The second team that should trade up for Justin Fields is a team that just drafted a quarterback a couple of years ago but hasn’t quite panned out.
