Ohio State basketball: Could Bucks lose Holtmann to UNC?
By Ryan Stano
There were some reports that the Ohio State basketball coach could be interviewed by North Carolina for their job. Is this true? If so, who would the Buckeyes get to replace him?
Chris Holtmann has been the head man for the Ohio State basketball team for four seasons now. While his postseason success hasn’t quite been there yet, he has still been pretty successful so far. His success seems to have caught the eye of a big-time program.
There was a report that Holtmann was set to interview for the now-vacant North Carolina job. North Carolina is one of the best jobs in the country, if not the best job. They could get anyone they want to take that job because of that. It’s that prestigious.
According to the Columbus Dispatch’s Adam Jardy, that is not the case though.
Holtmann seems to be staying put for now. Even if Holtmann does decide to stay for now, he might end up getting forced out sooner than he wants if he doesn’t do better in the postseason. In that case, who would the Buckeyes try to replace him with?
A couple of names jump out immediately. Jeff Boals down in OU is a former Ohio State assistant and has done very well with Ohio. That team made the NCAA Tournament this year and upset 4th-seeded Virginia. He would be a great person to take over.
Another name could be Eric Musselman. Musselman has done a good job with Arkansas. He made a run to the Elite Eight this year with them after taking Nevada to the same place a few years ago. Bringing him to Columbus would be massive.
Right now though, there’s no need to think Holtmann is leaving for any reason.
