A five-star center has Ohio State basketball in his top five and will be choosing his school in just a couple of weeks. This could be a blue-chip recruit.

The biggest problem for the Ohio State basketball team was their lack of a true big man. The Buckeyes didn’t have a true rim-protector who could intimidate players in the lane. That was especially true when Kyle Young got hurt at the end of the season.

Chris Holtmann is trying to take care of that and fix that immediately. Efton Reid is a five-star center out of IMG Academy. He’s 6’11 and weighs 225 pounds. While he doesn’t block a lot of shots, his position in the paint still keeps players from getting easy baskets.

Reid has a top four of Virginia, NC State, Florida State, and Ohio State. The Buckeyes are the only program that isn’t in the south. This would be a great find for Holtmann and would make Ohio State a top-three team in the Big Ten in 2021.

Even though Reid doesn’t block a ton of shots, his offensive game is strong. He can stretch the floor and make threes. Based on what I’ve seen, his post-game is strong too. He also seems to have good vision as a passer and can make some good passes out of the post.

Ohio State doesn’t have good passers out of the post. E.J. Liddell is okay at that, but Zed Key is a black hole in the post. Holtmann needs someone that can dish the ball around when they are double-teamed in the post. Reid would give them just that.

Reid’s mother let everyone know on Twitter that he will be making his decision on April 15th.

Reid is the third-best center in the country and also the third-best player in the state of Florida. He would be the highest-rated recruit on Ohio State’s roster if he decided to come to Columbus.
