Ohio State football: Banks, Babb out for remainder of Spring
By Del Barris
A couple of Ohio State football players will be missing the rest of Spring practice.
Cornerback Sevyn Banks and wide receiver Kamryn Babb will miss the remainder of spring practice with injuries, according to multiple media reports.
Banks, who started all eight games last season, finished with 23 tackles, one interception, a fumble recovery (which he returned for a touchdown), and 7 pass breakups. With Cameron Brown being limited in practice, the Buckeyes are now without two of their top three cornerbacks.
Redshirt senior Marcus Williamson is the only healthy corner remaining. While this is certainly a blow for the secondary, it will give more opportunities for the young cornerbacks to get needed reps.
For Kamryn Babb, this is one more setback in a career of setbacks. He missed part of his senior high school football season with a knee injury, redshirted his first year with Buckeyes after suffering a knee injury during the summer, and reinjured a knee in the spring of 2019 causing him to miss another season.
He finally made it onto the field as mostly a special teams contributor in 2020 and was credited with one assisted tackle. With the glut of talent the Buckeyes currently have at receiver, Babb wasn’t expected to be a part of the rotation.
These injuries are an annoying bump in the road for the Buckeyes. I wouldn’t expect them to affect the Ohio State football team into the Fall, although there is no word on the types or magnitude of the injuries. It shouldn’t be anything too concerning.
I’d be surprised if the Buckeyes lose these guys for any extended amount of time. An injury hurts Babb the most because he just can’t get on the field. His shot to get any playing time has taken a hit.
