Ohio State football: Justin Fields kills his Pro Day workout
By Ryan Stano
The former Ohio State football player had an incredible workout during Ohio State’s Pro Day and staked his claim to be the second overall pick in this year’s Draft.
A bunch of former Ohio State football players took the field today for their Pro Day to improve their draft stock by impressing scouts. Several players had great workouts, but perhaps no one had a better workout than quarterback Justin Fields.
Fields simply put on a clinic. He started out the day by running a blazing-fast 4.44 40-yard dash. Oh, by the way, that was slower than what Fields had been clocked at before. He can go faster than that, and that is truly scary for NFL defenses to think about.
Then Fields moved on to the throwing part of his workout. He was outstanding in that workout, only throwing two incompletions that were his fault in the entire 20-minute workout. He showed his arm strength too, which seemed to be a question among scouts leading up to this for some reason.
This throw was his best, and it was absolutely ridiculous.
That throw is so hard to make it’s insane. It’s hard to make without pads too. Rolling to his left and throwing it 60 yards in the air is a testament to just how strong his arm is and how accurate it is too. He really helped his draft stock with this workout today.
Anyone that thinks that Zach Wilson or Trey Lance or even Mac Jones is better than Justin Fields is kidding themselves. Fields is a better athlete, leader, and has a stronger arm than all three of those guys. His only real criticism is that he holds onto the ball too long, and that was only because he had too much trust in his teammates to get open.
If Fields isn’t the second overall pick in the Draft, the Jets are going to regret it for years to come. I can only hope he slips down to 21 and my Colts can somehow get the steal of the Draft.
