Whichever quarterback starts for the Ohio State football team in the Spring Game could be an indication of which QB might have the lead for the starting job in the Fall.

The Ohio State football team will have a new quarterback this Fall. With Justin Fields heading to the NFL, there will be a new sheriff in town. There is a three-way fight for the starting job. We won’t know which of these guys will win the job until Fall rolls around, but who will start in the Spring Game?

Whichever quarterback starts the Spring Game might have the upper hand on the job heading into Fall practice. The competition won’t seriously begin until the Fall rolls around. Even so, the QB who we see first in the Spring Game might indicate who has the lead on the battle up to that point.

My guess is that the starter for the Spring Game will be C.J. Stroud. Stroud seems to have a presence in the locker room so far that the other two quarterbacks don’t yet possess. Stroud also seems to fit the offense that Ryan Day wants to run the best.

Stroud seems to have the best combination of athleticism and arm strength to best run the offense at this point. That doesn’t mean that Jack Miller or Kyle McCord can’t win the job. I have stated that I think McCord would be the best choice.

The important thing isn’t who starts the Spring Game. The important thing is who plays the longest with the first-string. My guess is that all three will get time with the starters in that game. Whoever plays the best could have the early lead heading into the Fall.

The Spring Game should tell us a lot about the quarterback fight, as well as several other positional battles.
