Ohio State basketball: Bucks need to use transfer portal
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team needs to get better. That much is clear after the embarrassing loss to Oral Roberts. One way to do that is to utilize the transfer portal.
Losing to a 15-seed is not something that you plan for. The Ohio State basketball team clearly was not expecting to have their season end so soon. But with that loss brings the realization that they need to get better in certain areas of the roster.
Ohio State needs help in a couple of different areas coming into next year. One of those spots is at point guard. They will only have one true point guard on the roster next year, and that is Meechie Johnson. C.J. Walker will not be utilizing his COVID year to come back.
Center is another area of need. The Buckeyes don’t have a big center in the middle who is skilled enough offensively to be a threat. They don’t have someone who they trust who is that big. That could be the single biggest deficiency in the Buckeyes’ roster.
Both of these issues could be fixed by utilizing the transfer portal. It seems like this year more than ever that there are quality players entering the portal that could be very helpful to Ohio State. We already detailed one of those players who could help fix one of those issues.
Chris Holtmann has experience grabbing players from the portal. That’s where he got Walker from, as well as Keyshawn Woods, and Jimmy Sotos. All of these players have helped the Buckeyes win games. He knows there are guys in there now that can do the same thing.
This is something I’m going to be watching all summer. I guarantee you that Holtmann adds at least one player from the portal to next year’s roster.
