Ohio State football: Young secondary players are exciting to watch
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team knows that the secondary has to be better this year. There are some young players who could step up and play some exciting football back there.
The weakest part of the Ohio State football team in 2020 was the secondary. They got torched on several occasions, most notably in the National Championship Game. They are striving to be much better in 2021 and some of that might be due to a change in personnel.
Ohio State has several young players who could find themselves on the field this year getting some significant time. Latham Ransom is one of those players. He was slated to get on the field more than he did last year before he got injured. Now he’s fully healthy.
Ransom and Lejond Cavasos should get some time this year. Cavasos could challenge for time at corner now that Shaun Wade is gone. They need a slot corner and maybe another outside corner because of how many times Sevyn Banks got burned late too.
These are the types of guys that are going to need to step up if Ohio State is going to get back to the National Title game. The secondary and linebackers are the two biggest question marks for this team. Quarterback is too, but there’s too much talent for them.
If the secondary is even marginally better than it was last year, the Buckeyes could be the best team in the country. Ransom and Cavasos are two players that really excite me because of their speed and ball skills. Ohio State needs to force more turnovers and getting more guys on the field who can do that, the better.
I can’t wait for the Spring Game to see these two guys in particular play. I want to see their skills in person.
