There is a false rumor that former Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta took the IU job and then failed a physical. Let me clear this up; this is not true.

Indiana is in need of a new basketball coach after firing Archie Miller. They have been trying to find someone who would be interested in taking the job. Unfortunately for them, candidates have been withdrawing their names from consideration left and right.

It’s natural that they would be interested in former Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta. Matta coached at Butler and knows the state well. He certainly recruited the state well too at both Butler and Ohio State. There’s a rumor that he took the job and failed a physical so he was denied the job.

Let me clear this up right here and now; this is unequivocally false. Matta did not agree to take the job at any point. The “sources” that the outlet used to report it are lying. I know this because I have a source extremely close to Matta and they told me this was a flat-out lie.

If you don’t want to take my word for it, check this out.

As I reported before, Matta is not considering the IU job. He does not want it. The fact that this story is even out there is absurd. Who makes up a fake physical for a coach? That’s not a real thing. It never has been and probably never will be.

IU is clearly desperate for a coach. They won’t be able to get a guy who is already proven. They just need to come to grips with the fact that they need to try and grab an up and coming coach who can grow into the job.

Matta is not going to IU. Stop the nonsense now.
