Best case March Madness for Ohio State basketball
By Alex Austin
The Ohio State basketball team enters the NCAA Tournament as a #2 seed and will take on Oral Roberts in the first round. After an up and down season, what is the ceiling for this team?
The Ohio State Buckeyes were on a role in February and early March, making the case that they were legit national title contenders. Then the Buckeyes went through the teeth of the Big Ten and lost four straight games to end the regular season.
Just when all seemed lost, Ohio State got their groove back and made a run to the championship game in the Big Ten conference tournament. With all the roller coaster moments, the question begs to be asked, what is the ceiling for this team in March Madness?
Simply put, very high. Ohio State has the fifth-best odds to win the National Title and for good reason. The Big Ten put a record nine teams in the tournament, showing that the conference is one of the deepest in history. Despite the tremendous depth in the conference, the Buckeyes were three points away from being the best team in the best conference this year. The Big Ten tournament was the biggest argument in favor of the Buckeyes being able to make a run.
Joining the Buckeyes in the top six are Michigan, Illinois, and Iowa. Ohio State has already played and beat several of the top teams in the country by running through the Big Ten. When the going gets tough down the stretch, Ohio State will have already gone through difficult games before.
No team outside the Big Ten will have as much clutch game experience which will put any team in the conference at an advantage. Ohio State has built the mental fortitude throughout the season to win each game. Because of what the Buckeyes have been through, Ohio State has a strong chance to win March Madness.
