The Ohio State basketball team is a two seed in the NCAA Tournament and is poised to make a March Madness run. This one stat proves that they are true contenders.
No one thought that the Ohio State basketball team was going to make a run to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game. Yet they did, and very well could have won it in overtime despite missing Kyle Young for the second straight game after suffering a concussion.
They have been able to grab a two seed in the NCAA Tournament and are poised to make a deep run in March. Their region is a little tough, but they are good enough to win it all. There is one stat that shows they truly have a chance to win a national championship.
123.0. That is the Ohio State basketball team’s adjusted offensive efficiency. They score 123 points per 100 possessions, which is fourth-best in the entire country. Ohio State is clearly one of the best offensive teams in the country. Offense wins games in March.
Duane Washington has shown the capacity to create instant offense down the stretch. That point was underscored after a 32 point effort against Illinois in the Big Ten title game, which was a Big Ten Championship Game record. He kept the Buckeyes in it despite a poor effort from E.J. Liddell.
Liddell also has the capability of scoring a lot of points in a short amount of time. He is the second-leading scorer on the team at 15.9 points per game, just shy of Washington’s 16.3 as he recently passed Liddell. He also can score inside and outside, shooting 33.8% from three.
Great offenses are the biggest reason why teams win national titles. Ohio State certainly has a great offense. Their shooting is the biggest reason why the Buckeyes are true contenders to win big in March Madness.
