Ohio State basketball now fighting for a two seed
By Ryan Stano
After losing their fourth straight game to end the regular season, the Ohio State basketball team no longer has a shot at a one seed. They are now fighting for a two seed.
The Ohio State basketball team has had the wheels come off in the last couple of weeks. Since being ranked fourth in the country, they have lost four straight contests and have really struggled at the end of each of those games. They look like a lost team right now.
Instead of being a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament like they were projected to be at one point, they are now fighting to keep themselves in position for a two seed. They have to play well in the Big Ten Tournament to keep it that way as well.
Any sort of stumble for the Buckeyes would be a disaster to their seeding efforts. If they were to lose their first game in the Big Ten Tournament, it would be an unmitigated disaster. That would push them down to a low three seed, perhaps even a high four seed.
It’s sad to see how quickly this team has fallen off a cliff. They were one of the hottest teams in the country just two weeks ago. Now they are fighting to keep themselves together. As much as I praised Chris Holtmann earlier this year, this slide has definitely put a damper on this season.
Ohio State needs to clean up its defense, especially in transition. They also have to get better on offense down the stretch in these close games. They clam up and start taking bad shots at the end of these games. It kills any shot they have to win the game.
We can only hope that Holtmann gets this group together. It would such a disappointment for them to continue to fall flat on their face.
