Ohio State football: Is Harry Miller the answer at center?
By Ryan Stano
He was a former five-star recruit at the center position, but struggled in the one game he played there. Does the Ohio State football team have an issue at center?
The Ohio State football team returns three of their starting offensive linemen from a year ago. Only guard Wyatt Davis and center Josh Myers are headed to the NFL. Harry Miller, Thayer Munford, Nicholas Petit-Frere all return to the Buckeyes this season.
It was assumed that Miller, who was recruited as a center out of high school, would simply slide over to take Myers’ spot. It would allow Paris Johnson Jr. to slide into one of the guard spots and then have only one spot to be filled at the other guard spot, presumably Matt Jones.
But is Miller truly the best option at that center spot? Miller did have one start at center and it was a disaster. He started the Michigan State game there while Myers missed the game due to COVID and had bad snaps all over the place. He had a few over the head of Justin Fields.
There have been rumors that Jones has been making a push at center recently. It wouldn’t be surprising if Miller were to stay at guard and Jones would be the center. Miller was the worst offensive lineman that the Buckeyes had a year ago, but he was just a sophomore.
I would still think that the guy who was recruited as a five-star center would be the best guy for the job. Miller had one bad outing at a position he hadn’t played all season. He deserves to get the benefit of the doubt.
This is something worth monitoring as the Spring goes on. The Spring Game will tell us more about how the offensive line is going to be constructed.
