Ohio State football: Easiest conference game on their schedule
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team will have a tougher schedule in 2021 than they did in 2020. We already deciphered which game is the hardest, now we look at which one is the easiest in-conference.
The Ohio State football team is clearly the best team in the Big Ten. They have been for the last four years and are looking to make it five straight. To do that, they have to navigate a tougher schedule than they did in 2020. Even so, they have some easy games in their too.
We have already taken a look at the toughest game they have on their schedule. Now we look at the easiest one that they have to play in-conference. There are a few that jump out right away. The first two Big Ten games against Rutgers and Maryland and the Nebraska game on November 6th are all candidates.
Rutgers didn’t really pose a threat to Ohio State a year ago, but they did show some feistiness in the second half. Greg Schiano will have that team ready to fight any team that they play at any time. Ohio State won’t lose that game but Rutgers will at least show signs of life.
Nebraska is in complete disarray with Scott Frost leading the charge. They were once again expected to take a leap in 2020. Instead, they went 3-5 and got blasted by the Buckeyes in the oper 52-17. They never really recovered and don’t look close to being good.
But I think the winner here is Maryland. Maryland had three games canceled last year due to COVID, including their game against the Buckeyes. In the games they did play, they didn’t look too great. They went 2-3, and the game they won against Minnesota was in overtime after the Gophers missed an extra point.
Ohio State should absolutely destroy Maryland. They are much less talented and haven’t looked like they have the will to fight against the best teams. This looks to be the easiest game on Ohio State’s schedule, besides the games against Akron and Tulsa.
