Ohio State basketball: Kyle Young missing MSU game a big loss
By Ryan Stano
Chris Holtmann announced that the Ohio State basketball team will be down one key guy for their game against Michigan State tomorrow.
The Ohio State basketball team has been playing some great basketball as of late. Their only loss was on Sunday to TTUN, who is the third-best team in the country. Ohio State only has three games left in their regular season. Michigan State is the first one of those final games on the docket.
Chris Holtmann announced that Kyle Young will miss the game tomorrow due to a concussion. He showed no signs of having anything like that in the game on Sunday, so this comes as a pretty big surprise. It’s a huge blow to not have him for this game though.
Young is the glue guy on this team. He is the team’s best defender and has really improved his low-post game to be effective around the basket with either hand. He also is the leader on this team, being the lone senior in the starting lineup.
Having Young miss this game is not good for the Buckeyes. Michigan State has been on fire recently and just beat a really good Illinois team in their last game. Tom Izzo’s squad has been getting themselves together at the perfect time of year.
Ohio State will have to compensate for Young’s loss with some strong offense. Their defense is clearly a problem right now and it won’t get any better with Young out of this game. The best way for the Buckeyes to compensate for that is just to play really well offensively as they have been.
Ohio State still has more talent than Michigan State so they should still be able to win. It’s unclear how long Young will be out, as he is in concussion protocol. The next opportunity for him to play would be Sunday against Luka Garza and Iowa.
