The Ohio State football team wouldn’t have made the National Championship without Justin Fields. It seems people around the NFL are forgetting that.

I understand that everyone has a personal preference when it comes to talent. Talent evaluation is not an exact science. Every team needs something different, except for the quarterback position. One thing matters the most at that position: winning.

Justin Fields did plenty of that while he was at Ohio State. He only lost two games that he started in his career, and those were in the College Football Playoff against Clemson and Alabama. He was the reason the Buckeyes even made it that far in both seasons.

Meanwhile, Zach Wilson won only 66% of his games at BYU where they aren’t exactly playing top-level competition. In fact, Wilson only played eight Power 5 programs over the course of his three years as a starter. In those eight games, he went 4-4.

The reason I bring this up is that more and more people around the NFL seem to love Wilson more than Fields, which makes no sense. Fields was a Heisman Finalist in 2019 who completed 68% of his passes in his career. Wilson never won a big game and had a lower completion percentage at 67%.

Ohio State did have more talented teams. That much is true. Fields had more weapons to get the ball to and they could make big plays. Wilson hasn’t played with a receiver that has been higher than a third-round pick. That matters when it comes to talent evaluation.

But what also matters is arm strength, downfield accuracy, winning games, and being a great leader. Fields is better than Wilson at all of that. Fields is the best quarterback prospect besides Trevor Lawrence in this draft, and I will die on that hill.

When is Ohio State's Spring Game in 2021?. dark. Next

Whatever team drafts Fields is going to get one hell of a player. I would love to have him on my NFL team, but the Colts have unfortunately traded for Carson Wentz. The Ohio State football program was a better team because of Fields, and any NFL team would be lucky to have him.
