What Ohio State basketball needs to do to get a one-seed
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team finally lost a game today after winning seven straight games. They still have a shot to get a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament. This is what they need to do to get it.
The Ohio State basketball team lost to TTUN 92-87 today. It’s not a loss that kills them on their resume since TTUN is ranked third in the country. It does hurt their chances of grabbing a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament though. They do still have a path though.
Two of the final three games the Buckeyes play are against top 11 opponents. Ohio State would need to win those games and have a pretty decent run in the Big Ten Tournament in order to get that one-seed. They made not need to win the Big Ten Tourney, but they should probably at least make the semi-finals.
Ohio State still has the most Quad 1 wins in the country. Beating Illinois and Iowa would give them two more. Losing one of those games would likely push them down to the two-line unless they are able to make a run in the Big Ten Tourney and end up winning it.
Chris Holtmann isn’t worried about seeding right now. He is more worried about getting his team to play better defense. It doesn’t matter if they get a one-seed and then they play bad defense like they did today. They’ll get bounced without too many issues against the first good team they play.
Winning today’s game may have sewn up a one-seed unless the Buckeyes completely collapsed in at the end. Now, their road to that one-seed is a little bit tougher. Today did make it clear that Ohio State belongs in the discussion as one of the best teams in the country.
If Ohio State can improve their defending of the three-point line, they can beat anyone on any given day because of how good their offense is.
