The Ohio State football team has the number one quarterback in next year’s recruiting class. While other programs will try to steal Quinn Ewers from the Buckeyes, Texas won’t be one of them.

Quinn Ewers is committed to the Ohio State football program right now. While he hasn’t said anything that would indicate he would de-commit for any reason, there’s so much uncertainty when he can’t sign for another year. It’s certain that other programs will try to steal him from the Buckeyes.

There was a lot of speculation that Texas, his home-state school, would be the leading favorite to do just that. It was the program that Ewers de-committed from before he eventually chose Ryan Day and Ohio State. With Steve Sarkisian as the new head coach there, Texas fans had hope.

That will no longer be the case. Texas got a commitment from another quarterback in that class. Five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy announced his commitment to the Longhorns. He is the second-best quarterback in the 2022 class, behind only Ewers.

While there will be other schools that try to pry Ewers away from Columbus, Ohio State’s biggest competition is now gone. They won’t go after Ewers now that Murphy has committed there. Day just has to keep Ewers happy until Signing Day now.

Whoever the quarterback is in 2021 might go a long way in keeping Ewers happy. If it’s either C.J. Stroud or Jack Miller, Ewers might be happier than he would be if Kyle McCord is the choice. A lot can still happen between now and next December or February.

Next. Ohio State might rely on freshman for offensive success. dark

This is still good news for Buckeye fans. Ohio State’s biggest competition for flipping Ewers is now gone. This increases the chances that Ewers does keep his commitment to the Scarlet and Gray tenfold.
