Trey Sermon only played one year for the Ohio State football team but certainly left his mark. There is one specific team that would be the best place for him to land and that could help him maximize his NFL career.

The Ohio State football program has a long list of running backs that have been successful at the next level. Ezekiel Elliott is the most recognizable name in the NFL right now. Trey Sermon is hoping to follow in Zeke’s footsteps and be a productive NFL running back.

Sermon only played one year in Columbus but had a year to remember. He had a three-game run that rivals any run in team history. Against Michigan State, he ran for 110 yards. In the Big Ten Championship game, he ran for a team-record 331 yards. Then against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, he ran for 193 yards.

Those three games showed that Sermon can be a powerful back that has breakaway speed and can make a big play when the team needs him. While his injury history prevents him from being a top-round pick, he has great value in the third or fourth round.

There is one team that could help turn him into a productive, starting back in the NFL. That team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are in need of a running back now that they have found James Connor is clearly not the answer. Sermon would fit in perfectly.

Not only does Sermon possess good talent, but he also fits the smash-mouth mentality that the Steelers love to embody. He can bruise in between the tackles and still be effective. He also doesn’t necessarily have to be the starter right away but has the talent to do so if needed.

Any team that takes Sermon is going to need to be wary of his injury history. He has already torn a knee ligament and suffered a shoulder injury in this year’s national championship. That injury history is why Sermon probably will be a fourth-round pick.

That would be a great place for Sermon to blossom and become a quality starting running back in the NFL. Playing Ohio State football is what will set him up for all of this.
