We already made the case for C.J. Stroud to be the starting quarterback of the Ohio State football team next season. Now we make the case for his 2020 recruiting classmate Jack Miller.

The Ohio State football team will have a new quarterback next season. After the stellar career of Justin Fields, it’s going to be hard to find someone to step in his shoes. Those are some really big shoes to fill. The Buckeyes do have a few good options though.

One of those options is Jack Miller. Miller stunned Ohio State fans by being the first quarterback off the bench in the opening game against Nebraska. He was put in for mop-up duty after Ryan Day pulled Fields late in the game. It was a surprise he came in over Stroud.

In that Nebraska game, he did not throw a single pass. But he did have two rushing attempts for 23 yards and had a nice touchdown run. He showed that he has some athleticism that can be utilized in Day’s system. That’s part of the reason he was recruited to Ohio State.

Miller was a four-star recruit out of Arizona. He has a decently strong arm, but his strength is his decision making. He can also throw the deep ball well. Miller came in with Stroud knowing that he was going to have to wait until 2021 to get any playing time.

It’s really unfortunate that we didn’t see a Spring Game in 2020 to evaluate either Miller or Stroud. That really would have helped this debate. The Spring Game this year will definitely help. The case for Miller really hinges on his high school tape.

In that tape, Miller shows he can make all of the throws. He can throw it deep, on the sidelines, and over the middle. He is the prototypical pro-style quarterback that can run if he needs to. He looked really good in high school, but that was against inferior competition.

dark. Next. Chris Holtmann is doing his best coaching job

We won’t know who wins the quarterback battle until at least April and maybe Fall. Whoever is the next quarterback of the Ohio State football team is someone that Day will have complete faith in.
