Ohio State basketball continues hot streak, buries Maryland
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team continued its hot streak by beating Maryland for their fifth straight win.
It wasn’t a game that was easy for the Ohio State basketball team. They started out slow. In fact, they looked downright sleepy to start the game. It was a late tip, and they slept walked through the early part of the game, finding themselves down 7 early.
After that, it was all Buckeyes. Kyle Young led the way with a career-high 18 points and Ohio State was able to walk out of College Park with a 73-65 victory. Young was simply outstanding in this game, adding 4 rebounds and 2 blocks to go along with his 18 points.
Justin Ahrens’ outside shooting was big in this game too. He made some threes early and used his threat as a shooter to break down the Terrapin defense on several occasions. He finished with 11 points on 4-9 shooting and 3-8 shooting from behind the arc.
Duane Washington was on fire early in this game and made some really tough shots in the first half. He had 18 points on 7-15 shooting and seems to be making better decisions in terms of shot selection. That will go a long way in determining the ceiling on this team in March.
It seems like C.J. Walker might come off the bench the rest of the season because his play has been outstanding since he started doing so after coming back from the hand injury. He had 11 points, including 6-6 from the free-throw line.
This was a game in which the Ohio State basketball team could have overlooked an inferior opponent and got beaten. Chris Holtmann did a great job of keeping his team focused throughout the entire contest. This year is by far his best coaching job.
As long as he can keep his team focused, Holtmann’s squad has a really good shot of making a deep run in late March.
