Justin Fields spent two really good years as quarterback of the Ohio State football team. Now he will be headed to the NFL. There is one team that might be able to maximize his success the best.

The Ohio State football team was really good these last two seasons. The biggest reason for that is because Justin Fields was outstanding. Now, he heads to the NFL to fulfill his childhood dream of being a great NFL player. He just has to be drafted to a team first.

Before the season started, Fields was the consensus number two quarterback in the country, just behind Trevor Lawrence. That seems to no longer be the case. Fields could be slipping and that could make one NFL team in particular very happy.

While Fields would obviously like to be drafted as high as possible, it might not be the best for his career long-term. Going number two overall to the Jets would not be a good scenario for him. They are a complete mess, have a new coach, and haven’t’ had a winning record since 2015.

The team that might be able to unlock his maximum potential the best is the New England Patriots. They have the 15th overall pick and are in need of a franchise quarterback. Fields would fit in seamlessly and would make the Patriots measurably better as a rookie.

As much as I would hate to see it, Fields would make a really good Patriot. Bill Belicheck is as good as they come in terms of NFL head coaches. He’s the greatest of all-time for a reason. Fields would have the tools to succeed around him as well.

Fields would have a decent offensive line. He would also have a decent wide receiver in N’Keal Harry, who is young but has all of the skills necessary to be a number one wide receiver. The only thing he wouldn’t have is a top-notch running game.

I honestly hope this doesn’t happen. I hate the Patriots with every fiber of my being. But I also recognize the greatness that the franchise has been able to achieve over the last 20 or so years. Fields would be lucky to enter in that winning culture.

Obviously, we won’t know who will take Fields on Draft night. Wherever he goes though, he will be a great quarterback for years to come and Ohio State football fans will be cheering him on.
