Ohio State football: 3 OSU players who could play in Super Bowl next year
By Ryan Stano
It’s Super Bowl Sunday and unfortunately, there aren’t any Buckeyes playing in tonight’s game. Here are three former Ohio State football players who have a good chance to play in the game next year.
The Ohio State football team has a ton of alumni in the NFL. Unfortunately, there won’t be any Buckeyes playing in the Super Bowl this year. That has become the exception, not the rule though. There are plenty of teams with former Buckeyes that have a great deal of talent.
There are three Buckeyes that have the best chance to make it to the Super Bowl next year. All of these players are key players for their team and play for teams that are good enough around them to make it to the big game.
Parris Campbell
Parris Campbell was drafted in the second round in 2019 by the Indianapolis Colts. His rookie season was marred by injury as he only played in 7 games. Then in 2020, he tore his knee up on the second offensive snap of the second game and was done for the year.
Campbell would be a big part of the Colts’ offense if he can stay on the field. In fact, his presence might push the Colts over the top. If they can get a decent quarterback next season, they could be a real contender. They already have a great offensive line and running game. They just need healthy wide receivers, and Campbell could be a breakout star next season if he can stay healthy.
Nick Bosa
The 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year was a huge reason why the 49ers made it to last year’s Super Bowl. Bosa was an absolute freak in 2019, recording 47 tackles, 6 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, and an interception. He was a game-wrecker.
Unfortunately, he tore his ACL in the second game of the season and missed the rest of the year in 2020. A slew of defensive injuries de-railed any chance that San Francisco had of returning to the Super Bowl this season. If their defense can stay healthy next year, they could be back.
Bosa is one of the most disruptive players in the league already. If he can return to his rookie form next season, the 49ers defense could lead them back to the Super Bowl in 2021. If that happens, Bosa would definitely be a big reason why.
Corey Linsley
The former Buckeye center has done a great job protecting Aaron Rodgers and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2020. The Packers were a game away from playing in today’s Super Bowl and probably would have if not for a terrible defensive lapse at the end of the first half in the NFC Championship.
As long as the Packers have Rodgers under center, they will always have a really good chance to make the Super Bowl. Linsley was about as good as he possibly could be in 2020. Another repeat performance in 2021 could help them win it all.
Hopefully, there are more former Ohio State football players in next year’s Super Bowl no matter what.
