Why the Ohio State basketball team deserves a number one seed

The Ohio State basketball team has a number of signature wins this season with the most recent coming against top-ten ranked Iowa. With their overall record and impressive slate of wins, the Buckeyes should be a number one seed.

With March less than a month away, the madness is already starting in Columbus. The Buckeyes had question marks entering this season without a true star, but multiple players have stepped up to place this team among the best in the country. Previously being ranked seventh in the country and in line for a two or three seed, Ohio State should be elevated after beating Iowa.

By now it is common knowledge that the Buckeyes have the most quadrant one wins in the country and are the only team to beat five or more ranked teams. These things alone would be good enough for most teams to make a run at a top seed, but Ohio State has another thing going for them. They are playing their best basketball down the stretch.

Part of the beauty of March Madness is that if a team gets hot going down the stretch they have the ability to pull off some upsets and make a deep run. When a team has the talent to compete with anyone in the country and they are also getting hot down the stretch that team has a chance to win it all.

Ohio State is getting better every game. Becoming more confident in their roles and styles, the players are utilizing Chris Holtmann’s schemes to perfection and should be able to see immediate results in next week’s rankings.

Gonzaga and Baylor should stay at the top, however, the next spots are up for grabs. Michigan didn’t lose but they also did not play and there is no idea when they will play again. Villanova, Houston, and Texas all last this week and will likely fall below the Buckeyes.

The Ohio State basketball team should be no lower than four when the rankings are released on Monday, and that is good enough to be a number one seed.
