The Ohio State football program got a bit of a let down when the four-star linebacker decided to go to USC.

Raesjon Davis would have been a nice grab late in the recruiting cycle. After dec-committing from LSU in December, he took a visit to Ohio State a couple of weeks ago. There was hope that the Buckeyes might be able to grab him as a late addition to their class.

It was not to be. Davis decided to stay closer to home and attend USC. Davis is a four-star linebacker from Southern California. He would have been a nice addition to a linebacking corps that will have complete turnover in 2021.

While Ohio State lost out on Davis, there is still one big fish out there for them to catch. That big fish is of course J.T. Tuimoloau. He is the fourth-best prospect in the country and is a big-time defensive end. He would be a great addition to an already stellar class.

Ryan Day will be disappointed in Davis’ decision, but it won’t ruin his day. Davis would have just been a nice bonus addition. Tuimoloau is the player that the Buckeyes have spent the majority of their time on since the earlier signing period ended.

As it stands now, Ohio State has 21 players committed to their program. There isn’t anyone else who is supposed to commit to them until Tuimoloau makes his decision in April. Day and his staff will have the next couple of months to solely focus on him and continue to make a good impression.

It’s not how the Ohio State football program wanted to start their day, but it won’t ruin their day either. Davis would have been a nice addition, but he was never counted on as a firm member of this class.
