Quinn Ewers, the number one quarterback in the class of 2022, committed to the Ohio State football team on November 19, 2020. He originally committed to Texas in August of 2020 but de-committed just two months later.

After Texas fired Head Coach Tom Herman and hired Alabama Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian, rumors and speculation circulated that this hire may draw Ewers back to his home state to play for the Longhorns.

Steve Sarkisian has had his hand in the development of some very successful college quarterbacks- Mac Jones in 2020, Tua Tagovailoa in 2019, and Carson Palmer back at USC in the early 2000s. The draw would certainly be there for a young quarterback, seeing the development that could happen with the right coach.

Ryan Day is the right coach for Ewers, though. Day has had incredible success in his first two years as a Head Coach and has had his fair share of great quarterbacks during his time on the OSU coaching staff. J.T. Barrett, Joe Burrow, Dwayne Haskins, and Justin Fields have all been impacted by Ryan Day’s coaching.

Quinn Ewers seems to be 100% committed to Ohio State, and put some of the Texas rumors to rest on Monday, after tweeting a picture of a mounted deer sporting an Ohio State cap.

Ewers is not just the number one ranked quarterback in the class of 2020, but he is rated as the number one player in the entire country, per 247Sports. The five-star from Southlake, Texas, has a perfect 1.0000 rating, joining elite company.

Only five other players have been rated as a 1.0000 player in the 247Sports-era. Ewers joins Vince Young, Jadeveon Clowney, Robert Nkemdiche, Rashan Gary, and Ernie Sims in the six-way-tie for highest-ranked recruits of all-time.

While Ewers has one high school year remaining, he will enter a crowded quarterback room once he gets to the Ohio State football program. There will be a three-man battle for the starting job in 2021, and Ewers will have to beat out some combination of those three quarterbacks for the job in 2022.
