As we all know, the Ohio State football team struggled on defense, especially in the secondary. This is the player from the secondary who will break out in 2021.

The Ohio State football team was able to make the National Championship Game despite having a poor secondary. Really, it was the offense that carried the team that far. The secondary was clearly the biggest problem that this team had to deal with.

Part of that was coaching and part of that was certainly personnel. While the Buckeyes lose their best player from that part of the field in Shaun Wade, everyone else returns. That doesn’t mean that everyone who played last year will play again this year though.

One player who is primed for a breakout season in 2021 is Cameron Brown. Brown was hurt early in the year, only playing one full game in 2020. He ended up only recording a single tackle before tearing his Achilles against Penn State in the second game of the year.

Brown should be fully healthy to start the season in 2021. He was supposed to either be the second or third-best corner on the team. He was especially primed to be nickel corner behind Shaun Wade and Sevyn Banks. Marcus Williamson ended up filling up for him.

There is a strong chance that Brown takes back his nickel cornerback spot or ends up the second corner behind Banks. Williamson was atrocious all year long and might be without a job once the Fall rolls around. Brown will definitely end up playing a lot next season.

Brown has all the talent in the world to be an elite corner. All he needs is time to develop and gather some experience. That’s why his injury really hurt the Buckeyes. Brown will be a key part of the defense and could end up being the next great Ohio State corner, not Banks.

As long as Brown is fully healthy, there is no reason he shouldn’t be a huge part of this Buckeye secondary.
