The Ohio State football team didn’t play in front of any fans until the Sugar Bowl in 2020. Will that change in 2021?

The Ohio State football team has one of the best home-field advantages in the country. Ohio Stadium used to be able to fit close to 110,000. Even now with capacity down to around 103,000, the fans are still rowdy enough to give the Buckeyes a huge advantage.

2020 did not allow Ohio State to have their fans be a factor because of the pandemic. COVID ruined any chances of that for any team in the Big Ten. The team had to bring their own juice for every game. They were able to do that, but they weren’t as dominant as they could have.

Next year will be a new season. Ohio will hopefully have the majority of its population vaccinated, which should allow fans to be in the Shoe. The question is whether or not the rest of the United States will have the majority of the population vaccinated so that fans can congregate as normal.

If I had to guess right now, I would say that Ohio State will have fans in the stands for their games in 2021. I even think that the Shoe will be at full capacity. Even if that doesn’t end up being the case, there it should be at least 50% capacity. That is still a lot of fans.

That number of fans would still make a difference against a top team. Ohio State feeds off the energy the fans provide them every game. It was tough to watch them play in empty stadiums all year and not have that source of energy that they crave.

If the Big Ten allows fans in the Shoe next season I will certainly be there for a few games. What about you? Would you go to games next season if you were allowed?
