Ohio State football hosting top recruit this weekend
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is hosting a big-time recruit this weekend and might be able to steal him from USC.
The Ohio State football team is allowed to host recruits for visits again after COVID prevented that in the Fall. They will be hosting a big-time recruit this weekend and will try to grab him on Signing Day in February. He’s on the defensive side of the ball too.
That player is of course outside linebacker Raesjon Davis. He is a four-star recruit out of the powerhouse Mater Dei in Santa Ana, California. Davis is the 45th best player in the country overall and the fourth-best outside linebacker. He is also the 3rd best player in the state.
Davis has good cover skills as a linebacker but can hit with power. The Buckeyes need linebackers who can cover, especially after the disaster that was the National Championship Game. Davis can certainly help with that while adding an elite pass rush.
Davis is crystal balled to go to USC right now by 247Sports, but that doesn’t mean he’s a complete lock. Davis already de-committed from LSU in December, so his mind clearly isn’t made up. Getting him on campus gives the Buckeyes a chance to make a great final impression since this is his last visit.
If Ohio State can steal him this late in the process, that would be a huge coup. Right now, the Buckeyes only have one linebacker for the class of 2021, inside linebacker Reid Carrico. It would be great to add a second linebacker to the class, especially one of his caliber.
I wouldn’t put it past Ryan Day to sway someone into coming to Columbus. It’s great that he will get the final impression on Davis. Being the final school to host a visit for him gives Ohio State a unique opportunity to steal him. It will be up to Day and Al Washington to seal the deal now.
