The former Ohio State quarterback has signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s the perfect spot for him.

Dwayne Haskins had a really good season for Ohio State in 2018 and parlayed it into being a first-round pick. He was taken 15th overall by the Washington Football team. Unfortunately, the former Buckeye was not put into a situation to succeed. He was destined to fail.

Haskins’ coach made it known that he didn’t want him. Jay Gruden only played him when he was forced to. Haskins had a rough rookie season. Gruden was fired at the end of the season. Ron Rivera was hired and it was expected to be a fresh start for Haskins.

That ended up not working out either for a number of reasons. Washington’s offensive line was poor and didn’t give Haskins time to sit in the pocket. He didn’t have many weapons besides former Ohio State receiver Terry McLaurin, so that made it tough too. But a lot of the failures in Washington was his fault too.

Haskins has shown an alarming amount of immaturity in his time in the NFL. During his first professional win, he didn’t take the final kneel down because he was too busy taking a selfie with a fan. He also was caught on video in a club without a mask on.

All of that, combined with his lack of knowledge of the playbook and his poor play on the field, led him to be released by Washington before the final regular-season game. Now though he has found a new team. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for one year today.

This is the perfect situation for Haskins in 2021. He will sit behind Ben Roethlisberger for a season and learn from a future Hall of Famer. He is surrounded by an organization that has an excellent culture and structure from top to bottom. It’s a culture that will force him to grow up.

If Haskins plays his cards right and starts to grow up and show some improvement on the field, he could take over for Big Ben once he retires. That would be the best-case scenario for both the Steelers and the former Ohio State quarterback.

Next. Buckeyes could get huge recruiting boost. dark

Haskins has one more shot in the NFL. This will be his last shot. He not only needs to play better on the practice field but show more maturity and leadership as well. If he doesn’t he won’t get another job in the league.
