The success of the Ohio State football program in terms of producing NFL talent has become more apparent with the defensive end winning Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The Ohio State football program has done a fantastic job of churning out NFL talent over the past decade or so. This is especially true on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive end Chase Young is just one example of that and is the most recent example of Ohio State’s NFL factory.

Young was the number two overall pick in last April’s Draft, going to the Washington Football Team. In his first season, he made an immediate impact on that team. He was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America.

With Young winning that honor, that means the Ohio State football program has produced four of the last five DPOY’s. Joey Bosa won it in 2016, Marshon Lattimore won it in 2017, Nick Bosa won it in 2019, and now Young in 2020. That is an amazing feat.

Young winning this award gives the Buckeyes more firepower on the recruiting trail. His accolade shows that if you are a young player who wants to make it to the next level and make an immediate impact, you should go nowhere else but Ohio State.

This is especially important now with the impending decision of top recruit J.T. Tuimoloau. This gives Larry Johnson another thing to point to on why the young man should come to Columbus. Ohio State has been the favorite for his services for a while, but this stat certainly helps.

The success of the Buckeyes in the NFL, specifically those who are on the defensive side of the ball, will determine how the recruiting efforts will go for this team moving forward. Ryan Day will never have issues getting offensive talent to Columbus. It’s the defensive side that is more challenging.
