The Ohio State basketball team suffered a crippling loss at home to the Purdue Boilermakers after they led most of the game.

The Ohio State basketball team started off their game against Purdue on fire from the three-point line. In fact, they shot 40% from deep for the entire game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to beat Purdue as they fell 67-65 after the Boilermakers made a game-winning three with 5 seconds left.

This game was lost in the middle of the second half when the Buckeyes went a six-minute stretch without making a bucket. They saw their lead dwindle to two during that stretch. They just couldn’t make anything and it really cost them the game.

The referees did miss a blatant foul that Purdue committed on a Justin Ahrens three. He was clearly hit on the arm and the refs let it go after calling a bunch of touch fouls all game long. It was an inexcusable mistake to make at that juncture of the game.

Duane Washington tried his best to keep his team in it. He had 21 points on 7-14 shooting including 6-9 from three. He was the main source of offense for this team. E.J. Liddell had 11 and only took 11 shots. He needed to be more involved offensively.

As a team, the Buckeyes only shot 37.7% from the field while allowing Purdue to shoot 48%. It was a mix of poor shooting and poor defense that allowed Ohio State to choke this one away. It’s a really tough loss for a team that was playing really well coming into this one.

The Buckeyes will try to put this one behind them before taking on Wisconsin this weekend.
