Ohio State Football: Justin Fields still hasn’t declared for NFL
By Coop Ledford
Many members of the Ohio State football team have declared for the NFL draft, officially ending their collegiate careers. Star QB Justin Fields has yet to declare, could he stay at OSU for one more year?
Justin Fields will always be remembered as a legend at Ohio State. The transfer from Georgia started the 2019 season and led the Buckeyes to a perfect regular season, a Big Ten Championship, and took the team to the College Football Playoff. Fields finished third in Heisman voting in 2019.
The 2020 season nearly didn’t happen, and it was Justin Fields who started an online petition in hopes of reversing the Big Ten’s decision to cancel the season. His petition received over 300,000 online signatures.
The 2020 season did happen, and the Buckeyes had an abbreviated, yet perfect, season. Fields and Ohio State captured their fourth consecutive Big Ten title, made the College Football Playoff for the second straight year, won the Sugar Bowl against Clemson, and made it all the way to the National Championship Game.
“I’m going to miss everyone,” said Fields after the National Championship Game, leaving little doubt that he would return to Ohio State for his senior season.
Multiple Ohio State players have already announced their departure, including RB Trey Sermon, CB Shaun Wade, K Blake Haubeil, P Drue Chrisman, C Josh Myers, and others.
It is a bit of a surprise that Justin Fields has not yet announced that he will enter his name in the NFL Draft. Fields is a projected top-10 pick in the majority of mock drafts. Most mock drafts have him going #2 overall to the New York Jets. We are also awaiting an announcement from his favorite WR, Chris Olave, as well as multiple defensive players.
The deadline to enter the NFL Draft is Monday, Dec. 18. We will follow-up with an update when a decision is officially announced.
