Ohio State women’s basketball playing well despite sanctions
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State women’s basketball team is undefeated and ranked 15th in the country despite knowing they won’t play in the postseason.
It’s been a rough year for the Ohio State women’s basketball program, but you wouldn’t know it by the way they are playing. They recently got sanctions handed down to them stemming from impermissible benefits and they won’t be playing in the NCAA tournament this year.
In that same investigation, it was revealed that Associate Head Coach Patrick Klein was also sexually harassing some players. He was the one who had recruiting violations with the impermissible benefits as well. It was a rough investigation.
On top of all that, the women’s team has had to deal with several postponements due to COVID. So far this season, they have had two games canceled and four others postponed due to the virus. They have only played six games in this college basketball team.
Yet despite all of these challenges, the Buckeyes are 7-0 and ranked 15th in the country. They have won all of their games by double-digits expect for their two-point victory over Iowa on Wednesday. They have been a great basketball team.
Jacy Sheldon is leading the team with 18.2 points per game on a team that has fairly balanced scoring. This team is playing as well as any team in the country right now. It’s truly a shame we won’t get to see how far they could go in the NCAA tournament.
Give Head Coach Kevin McGuff credit. He has kept his team motivated and playing at a high level through all of the distractions of a wild season. His team is positioned well to potentially win the conference in the regular season.
It’s great to see these ladies persevere through some trying times. With only one senior on this squad, most of the team will be back next year to make some postseason noise.
