Ohio State football: These players will miss the National Championship
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has dealt with COVID cases leading up to the National Championship Game. These are all the players who will miss the game due to the virus.
The Ohio State football program has a chance to make a statement tomorrow night. They can cap off a historic season in historic fashion. The problem is that they will be missing some good players in key positions for the game due to COVID.
Tommy Togiai and Tyreke Smith are both out due to the virus. I know a lot of rumors have been floating around that Togiai may have had a false positive. My sources say this is not true and that he will miss the game. If he does somehow play, it would be for another reason.
I have heard rumblings of the Buckeyes deciding to disregard the Big Ten’s COVID protocols and instead using the CDC’s guidelines. This is something that 247Sports’ Dave Biddle also mentioned on a recent podcast. If that’s the case, Togiai would have a shot to play. I don’t believe this is the case though as I haven’t been able to confirm the validity of that rumor.
My sources also tell me that the Buckeyes will be without Blake Haubeil and Dominic DiMaccio. Both kickers will miss the game due to COVID. It will be up to freshman Jake Seibert to handle the kicking duties, something he hasn’t done all season long.
We already know that Myian Williams is out for the game as well. He voiced his disappointment on Twitter last night.
There are a few other backups who will also miss the game. There’s a chance that Ohio State only has four defensive ends available. These are all of the names I have been able to confirm at this point. The main concern for me is the kicking position and having Togiai out.
We’ll see if the Ohio State football team can come together and win a national title without these guys available to help.
