What uniforms will the Ohio State football team wear in the National Championship?
By Coop Ledford
The #3 Ohio State football team will be donning their white 1968 throwback uniforms when they take the field on January 11 against the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide in the National Championship Game.
Big games and alternate uniforms go hand-in-hand at Ohio State. From countless throwback and alternate uniforms for Big Ten games, to the home and away versions of their 1968 throwbacks worn in College Football Playoff games, the Buckeyes always have a fresh uniform to wear.
The Buckeyes will be wearing their away white ’68 throwbacks against Alabama in the National Championship Game on Monday, the same uniforms worn in the Sugar Bowl against Clemson.
The last time Ohio State played Alabama, the Buckeyes were donning these same uniforms. That of course was in an unforgettable Sugar Bowl in which the Buckeyes won 42-35, which sent them into the National Championship game against Oregon. If you’re the superstitious type, hopefully Ohio State will be able to duplicate their success against the Crimson Tide next week.
Do uniforms really play into the final score? No. But it is worth noting; all but one College Football Playoff National Championship Game has been won by the team wearing its away uniforms. The lone team to be victorious in their home uniforms were the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2015.
Fans and players alike rave about the “gray sleeve” uniforms. There are rumors that Ohio State may officially make their 1968 throwbacks their standard home and away uniforms as early as next season.
The Buckeyes and Crimson Tide will kickoff at 8 PM ET on Monday, January 11 on ESPN. The Tide currently sit as eight-point favorites, according to ESPN.com.
