For the 7th time in the last 9 years, an Ohio State football player has been named Big Ten’s best player.

Justin Fields has been named the Big Ten Conference’s best player for the 2020 season. Despite being snubbed as a Heisman finalist, the Buckeye QB received 12 of 13 first-place votes to receive the Big Ten’s highest award.

After a dominating performance in the Sugar Bowl, Fields was 22 of 28 with 385 passing yards and 6 touchdowns. When the lights are brightest, Fields comes to play and shows the nation why he is one of the best players in the country.

In just 21 career games as a Buckeye, Fields moves up to 2nd place on Ohio State’s career touchdown passes list with 62. Fields has made the most of this national championship season passing for 1,906 yards with 21 touchdowns.

This is the 3rd straight year the Buckeyes have won this award. Chase Young and Dwayne Haskins won the award in 2019 and 2018, respectively. Not surprisingly, Ohio State leads the Big Ten with the most award winners, 22, since the award began in 1924.

Fields was clearly the best player in the conference from the start. He was a Heisman finalist a year ago and played at that level several times this season. The only reason he wasn’t a finalist this year was because Ohio State only played six games.

No question that Justin Fields is a gamer. Can he go out with a bang and claim the College Football Playoff Championship MVP award on Monday night after a win against Alabama? That would be a great way to close out his college career. He’s already an Ohio State football legend.
