Ohio State Football: Ryan Day throws shade Clemson’s way
The Ohio State football team and Ryan Day are getting ready for a New Year’s Day matchup with Clemson. Day threw a subtle shot at Swinney and his staff on Monday.
Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team are sick of Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney running his mouth. Making numerous stupid comments throughout the season and last few weeks, Day offered up a shot of his own toward Swinney and defensive coordinator Brent Venables during a Monday press conference.
Coach Day was asked about Venables specifically, and his answer was definitely a jab at Clemson and their coaching staff, via Eleven Warriors:
"“He’s one of the best defensive coordinators in college football,” Day said on Monday. “He does a great job calling the game. Seems to always know exactly what the other team is doing in terms of the plays that they’re running, each play. Seems to call the right defense into that play a lot. Why that is, I don’t really know, but I can tell you he’s been doing it for a really long time and it’s a good challenge.”"
Day threw this shot at Clemson, subtly suggesting that they study the opposition’s sideline signals. This is definitely considered to be taboo amongst coaches, even though it’s probably done more often than we think. Kind of Bill Belichick-esk.
But of course, Ohio State already knows this and will be prepared. They have faced Venables three times in the last seven seasons so they know what they’re are up against. Plus offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson knows Venables well from their time together on the Oklahoma Sooners coaching staff under Bob Stoops.
Adding fuel to the fire that is already burning between these two teams, this game is sure to be heated. The Buckeyes have revenge on their minds for last year’s semi-final loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl.
