The former defensive end and number two overall pick was named a captain of the Washington Football Team as a rookie.

Chase Young was an animal for the Buckeyes over the course of his career. He was the most dominant player I have personally seen play for Ohio State. His talent is what led him to be the number two overall pick in last April’s NFL Draft.

His talent was never in question. Now we know what kind of leader he is. Today Young was named a captain of the Washington Football Team as a rookie. He was named a captain because of former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins being stripped of his captaincy.

While it’s a sad moment for Haskins, who had a really great year back in 2018 for the Buckeyes, it’s a great moment for Young. Not many rookies get named as a captain in the NFL. There are even fewer instances of a defensive rookie being named a captain.

The Washington Football Team has had a rough season overall, but they are still competing for a playoff spot. Having the team want a rookie to lead them in this situation says a lot about Young’s skill on the field and his command of the locker room off the field.

Young has played well this rookie season and should only get better in terms of production. He had a few injury problems early in the year but has mostly been a force. Once he gets a full NFL offseason under his belt, the rest of the league better look out.

Next. Urban Meyer won't coach in the NFL. dark

Young is making Ohio State proud at the next level in more ways than one.
