Ohio State football: Demario McCall gives Clemson motivation
By Ryan Stano
The fifth-year running back for the Ohio State football team did something stupid, which seems to be a pattern for the young man. He just better hope it doesn’t come back to bite the Buckeyes.
The Ohio State football team will be playing Clemson on New Year’s Day in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. It will give the Buckeyes a chance for revenge for what happened in last year’s semi-final. They have all the motivation they need. Unfortunately, a Buckeye may have given Clemson some bulletin-board motivation too.
Demario McCall seems to have live-streamed the locker room celebration from when Ohio State beat Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game. Celebrating is not an issue, especially when you have just won a conference title. The issue is broadcasting the message given during the celebration.
That message was a fired-up Ryan Day telling his team that no matter who they were going to play in the semi-final, Clemson, Alabama, or Notre Dame, that they were going to “beat their f****** a****”. That might make Clemson even more fired-up for this game.
Nothing Day said is wrong or something he shouldn’t have said. Of course a head coach is going to say that to his team. I’m sure he believes it too. He should. He’s motivating his guys and showing that he has faith in them to do whatever it takes to win.
Demario McCall once again shows his immaturity, which is why he’s hardly played for the Ohio State football team.
The problem is McCall’s broadcasting of the situation. The guy is a fifth-year senior. He should know better than to broadcast stuff like that from the locker room. He isn’t some bright-eyed freshman. McCall should know better than this.
The reason this is a big deal is that Clemson is already really good. You don’t need to give them a reason to focus even more and play even better. Ohio State is already going to have its hands full. You don’t need to add fuel to the fire.
Because of the profanity in the video, we can’t publish it here. But if you type in McCall’s name on Twitter, you can find it easily enough if that’s something you want to check out. Hopefully, the Buckeyes can use their own motivation to win this game regardless of this getting out.
