The Ohio State football team won their fourth straight Big Ten Championship after beating Northwestern 22-10. They did this despite the worst playcalling by Ryan Day that he has ever had.

This game will be forever known as the Trey Sermon game. Sermon is the only reason the Ohio State football team had a chance in this Big Ten Championship. He was absolutely unbelievable, running the ball 29 times for a whopping 331 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Sermon broke Eddie George‘s single-game rushing record of 314 yards. That was the year that Eddie won the Heisman. Sermon had an absolute monster game and will forever be a Buckeye legend for this single game.

Sermon did this despite Ryan Day’s best efforts to lose this game. His playcalling was absolutely horrendous. Despite Sermon averaging 15 yards a carry at points in this game, Day refused to hand him the ball. He kept calling pass plays that weren’t working.

Justin Fields had his worst game of his career. This was even worse than the Indiana game. Fields was only 12/27 for 114 yards and two interceptions. Only one of the interceptions was his fault, but it was a pick in the endzone that prevented Ohio State from scoring points.

The Buckeye defense actually played pretty well in this one. After allowing Northwestern to run the ball down their throat for a touchdown on the opening drive, the Buckeyes kept Northwestern to only 3 points the rest of the way. They also forced three turnovers.

Justin Hilliard was a beast in this game. He had an interception in the end zone and a fumble recovery to go along with several tackles. He was the biggest reason the defense was able to turn around in the second half. Josh Proctor also had an interception.

It was a game that the Buckeyes struggled in most of the way. But in the end, a win is a win. This win should get them in the Playoff. This team needs to get themselves fixed before that time though. They can’t play like this and win a semi-final game.
